Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane sets new record

Harry Kane has become Tottenham Hotspur’s leading goalscorer in the Premier League era.

The 24-year-old has struck twice in Spurs’ home encounter with Everton this evening to take his tally of Premier League goals for the club to 98, surpassing Teddy Sheringham’s old record of 97.

Kane achieved the feat in 135 league appearances for Spurs, while Sheringham’s tally came in 236 outings between 1992 and 2003.

The England international has some way to go before he surpasses the club’s player record of 220 league goals, however, which was set by the legendary Jimmy Greaves in the 1960s.

Last month Kane broke Alan Shearer’s record for the number of Premier League goals scored in a calendar year, while his 56 goals for club and country in 2017 made him the leading goalscorer among Europe’s top leagues.
