Manchester United are “determined” to try and beat Manchester City to the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy N’Dombele, according to reports in France.

France Football, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils have identified the 21-year-old as one of their top transfer targets ahead of the January window.

The same story says that Manchester City had a bid for N’Dombele turned down in the summer after Lyon opted to hold onto the midfielder.

Now, it is being claimed in the same report that Manchester United are keen to try and land the midfielder, who is said to be valued at around £70m.

N’Dombele has been in solid form for Lyon so far this season, scoring two goals in the Champions League and making four assists in 16 Ligue 1 games.

Manchester United could well be on the lookout for reinforcements in January as Jose Mourinho looks to reverse his side’s fortunes in the second part of the season.

The Red Devils are currently well off the pace in the race for the title and find themselves 16 points behind leaders Liverpool FC after 16 games.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their Champions League clash against Valencia in Spain on Wednesday night, having already booked their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
