While the Blues are not short of options in the back of the pitch, Frank Lampard is expected to make changes to his squad during the coming transfer window.
According to FCInterNews.It, the Premier League giants are considering whether to make a bid for Acerbi, who has been impressive for the Serie A club over the past seven months.
The 32-year-old defender racked up 24 starts in Serie A this season, helping the club mount a strong challenge for the silverware.
Should Chelsea up their efforts to sign the Italy international, they could face fierce competition from league rivals Inter Milan.
Acerbi still has more than three years left to run on his contract at Stadio Olimpico.
