Chelsea lining up move for Benjamin Pavard?
Chelsea have got themselves in pole position in the race for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard during the summer transfer window.
Pavard’s current contract has just over 12 months left, and after spending seven years in Germany with Stuttgart and Bayern, he may seek a new challenge abroad.
Although, the 27-year-old has been a regular player for the Bavarians this season, featuring in 26 Bundesliga matches, his opportunities at the international level have been limited.
The Mirror suggests that Chelsea are eager to strengthen their defence further, having already acquired players like Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Benoit Badiashile this season.
Pavard is versatile, capable of playing as a centre-back or right-back, which could lead to strong competition on the right side of the defence.
The West Londoners already have Reece James at Stamford Bridge, and Malo Gusto is expected to return after being loaned back to Lyon in January.
However, it’s not only Chelsea who have shown interest in Pavard. Manchester United and Inter Milan are also reportedly considering a move for the Frenchman.
Barcelona are also in the mix and could be the preferred destination, especially after their acquisition of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern last summer.
