Bayern Munich Eye Frenkie de Jong as Potential Midfield Boost
Bayern Munich are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements this summer, and they have set their sights on Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong as a potential alternative to West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
The German champions had initially shown interest in the England international, but they backed out due to the high asking price set by the Hammers.
West Ham are demanding more than £100m for Rice, turning down offers from Arsenal and Manchester City that fell short of their valuation. Bayern, however, are not willing to spend such a significant sum on a single player. Despite this, they remain determined to strengthen their central midfield options before the start of the new season.
Reports suggest that De Jong is on Bayern’s radar, and they hope to take advantage of any financial difficulties Barcelona may be facing.
The Catalan giants had previously considered offloading the Dutchman to reduce their wage bill, with Manchester United expressing interest. However, De Jong decided to stay at Camp Nou and played a crucial role in helping Barca reclaim the La Liga title.
Although De Jong is content at Barcelona and wants to continue at the club, Bayern may test Barcelona’s resolve in the transfer market.
Bayern Munich had a statistically below-par season last year, but they still managed to secure the Bundesliga title, narrowly edging out Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the campaign.
