Chelsea keen on Brentford star David Raya
Fichajes reports that Chelsea are interested in signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
The 27-year-old has played a vital role in helping the Bees earn promotion and establish themselves in the Premier League.
Raya’s contract with the London club ends in summer 2024. He has attracted the interest of not only Chelsea but also Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea have spent heavily in the previous two transfer windows but they yet to address their defencive shortcomings. Edouard Mendy began the season as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper but has fallen behind Kepa Arrizabalaga in the pecking order since Graham Potter’s arrival. However, neither goalkeeper has been able to cement their position, and signing a new number one is a priority in the summer.
The Blues are leading the race to sign Raya and are reportedly ready to make a €25m bid for the shot-stopper. While Brentford would be reluctant to part with their reliable keeper, selling him at this price would generate a substantial profit for a player they acquired cheaply just four years ago.
Raya’s impressive displays make him an ideal fit for Graham Potter’s possession-based style of football. He could even provide assists to Chelsea’s forwards, similar to Alisson Becker’s contributions to Liverpool.
