Arsenal lead race to sign Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have reportedly taken the lead in pursuing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as they prepare for the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a key figure in Real Sociedad’s current standing as third in La Liga. Despite being linked with a move away from his boyhood club for a while, it appears that the midfielder may be soon departing from Real Sociedad.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Premier League leaders Arsenal are at the forefront of the pursuit to acquire Zubimendi, with Barcelona, their primary rival, shifting their attention towards other prospects.

The report states that Zubimendi’s release clause is valued at £53m, and while the Gunners was willing to trigger this clause in January, the Spaniard was not interested in departing during the midst of the season.

The North Londoners may have other transfer targets with higher priority, but Zubimendi is a viable option that they should definitely consider, especially given the reasonable price tag.

A fee of £53 million is a relatively modest sum in today’s market, especially for a midfielder who is already showing exceptional performance at the age of 24 and has a promising future ahead.
