Jean-Philippe Mateta Keen on Man Utd Transfer in January

Jean-Philippe Mateta is reportedly open to joining Manchester United in the winter transfer window, according to talkSPORT. The Crystal Palace striker could be available at a bargain price.

Why Mateta Is Leaving Crystal Palace

The 29-year-old has scored 42 Premier League goals over the last three seasons. He was close to joining AC Milan for £30 million last winter, but the move collapsed after he failed a medical because of a knee problem.

He recovered to help Palace win the Conference League. A hamstring injury in August has limited his minutes this season. His contract expires in June and he has no plans to extend, so an exit in January looks likely. Palace would rather sell than lose him for nothing.

Man Utd’s Striker Problem

United have used Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as makeshift centre-forwards this season. Benjamin Sesko, their first-choice number nine, has been out for weeks with a recurring shin injury. The Sun claims he could be sidelined until the new year, and there is no confirmed return date.

Joshua Zirkzee is the other striker in the squad, but he has been a fringe player for years. He was tipped to leave in the summer, and a January sale could free up funds for a new forward.

How Much Will Mateta Cost?

Palace cannot demand anything close to last winter’s £30m fee. A deal at around £15m looks realistic, and it could fall further if Mateta pushes for the move.

Mateta is powerfully built and strong at holding up the ball. He also links play well and finds space in the box. United have tracked the World Cup semi-finalist before and could return when the window reopens.
