Chelsea lining up move for Pablo Barrios
Chelsea are reportedly in talks to sign Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios ahead of next summer’s transfer window, with journalist Ekrem Konur claiming the Club World Cup champions have already held discussions over a potential deal.
Who Is Pablo Barrios?
The 22-year-old is a product of Real Madrid’s academy before switching to Atlético in 2017, where he’s developed into one of La Liga’s most dynamic midfielders. His energetic pressing, intensity and relentless work rate have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs — qualities that translate perfectly to English football.

Why Chelsea Need Him
Despite boasting the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, Chelsea’s midfield depth remains a concern. Lavia has been plagued by injuries, only recently returning against Burnley, while Dario Essugo is yet to make a Premier League appearance this season. Barrios would provide the reliability and proven quality Liam Rosenior’s side desperately needs.
Stiff Competition for His Signature
Chelsea won’t have it easy. Manchester City and Real Madrid are also said to have entered talks for Barrios, making this a three-horse race for one of Europe’s most sought-after young midfielders.
Football Talk previously reported Chelsea were preparing a £69 million formal offer — but with four years remaining on his Atlético contract, Los Rojiblancos won’t let him go cheaply.
