Tottenham Plot Move for Matias Soule but Face Villa Competition

The race for Matias Soule is heating up — and it could be one of the summer’s most competitive transfer battles. According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the chase for the 23-year-old AS Roma winger, joining Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, and Bournemouth in monitoring his situation. Roma are holding firm at a €35–40 million asking price.

Soule’s Breakthrough Season at Roma

Since his move from Juventus in July 2024, Soule has flourished under the Roman sun. The Argentine delivered seven goals and eight assists across 42 appearances in all competitions in 2025/26, playing a meaningful role in Roma’s top-four Serie A finish. It’s the kind of form that gets clubs across Europe reaching for the phone.

Why Both Clubs Need Him

At Villa Park, the need is clear. Jadon Sancho’s loan has ended, Leon Bailey’s future is uncertain, and Unai Emery’s attack has leaned too heavily on Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins. Soule’s creativity and directness would offer precisely the width and unpredictability the Villans are missing.

Spurs have a different but equally pressing problem. Since Son Heung-min’s departure to MLS, Roberto De Zerbi has leaned on Wilson Odobert and Mohammed Kudus as his wide options — a thin pool for a club with top-four ambitions.

Verdict

This one looks like Villa’s to lose. Soule is reportedly keen on a move to the Midlands, and Champions League football is a powerful lure that Spurs simply cannot match right now. Unless De Zerbi can sell him a bigger vision, the Argentine is heading to Villa Park.
