Arsenal hope to convince Mesut Ozil to stay with new contract offer?

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to improve their initial contract offer in the hope of persuading Mesut Ozil to stay at the Emirates.

The German World Cup winner has often been accused of going missing in big games, but in recent weeks, the midfielder has impressed on the pitch.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a swoop for the 29-year-old, who will become a free agent at the end of the season if he opts against signing fresh terms with Arsenal.

According to The Mirror, the North London outfit have upped their £235,000-a-week salary offer to around £300,000, which is the figure that Ozil’s camp were angling for.

The report adds that it is unclear if the former Real Madrid star will commit his future to the Gunners, but a decision may have to be made soon given that he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club when the window opens in January.
