Man City ‘to offer Mikel Arteta a new contract’

Manchester City have reportedly offered Mikel Arteta a new contract.

The Spaniard was widely expected to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager following lengthy talks with the club’s board.

However, it is believed that former Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery will be appointed as the new leader later this week.

The Spaniard has more experience than Arteta given that he has taken charge of Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain over the past five years.

During that time, Emery won eight trophies, including the Ligue 1 title and three Europa League crowns, while Arteta has been part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City for the past two years.

According to the Daily Mail, after missing out on the Arsenal job, City are willing to offer Arteta a new two-year extension.

The midfielder retired from professional football in 2016.
