Report – Chelsea step up pursuit of Declan Rice

Chelsea have reportedly accelerated their pursuit of West Ham United star Declan Rice as they attempt to secure his signature in the summer transfer window, according to The Times.

The Blues are aggressively active in the summer market having signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

However, the west London are looking to strengthen their leaky defence ahead of the 2020/21 season, and manager Frank Lampard is said to have been impressed by Rice’s displays at centre-back.

The 21-year-old came through the Chelsea’s academy before he joined the Hammers at the age of 14 after being released by the Blues.

The England international, who has won seven caps – is best known for his performances in the middle of the pitch for the east London outfit.

Rice has a deal at West Ham until 2024.
