Newcastle United lining up move for Andreas Christensen?

Newcastle United have reportedly outlined their intentions to move Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

The Denmark international ended his long-term association with Chelsea and switched to Camp Nou as a free agent last season. Although he has not cemented his place in the first team.

He has made 21 starts and four substitute appearances in all competitions, with 16 of his appearances coming in the Spanish top flight.

However, Barcelona’s financial situation have left only a minority of players available for transfer in 2023.

Sport reports that Newcastle United are considering a surprise move for the 26-year-old defender to strengthen their backline, despite already having the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Although Fabian Schar and Sven Botman are considered the first-choice pairing, the Magpies need alternatives, especially if they qualify for European competitions.

However, the Blaugrana are not interested in allowing Christensen to leave for the Premier League, and the player himself prefers to stay in Spain. The situation may change, though, if Newcastle makes a significant bid in the coming months.
